Canon whitepapers @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video ipod touch itouch icamera ipad itabletCanon’s always had a number of very detailed whitepapers on their cameras – if you could only find them. So if you have been searching for them, head on over to Canon’s whitepaper page.

Just recently, they added a new whitepaper for the Canon 1D Mark IV. With the exception of the Canon 7D, every high- and mid-level Canon camera is covered. They also have whitepapers on some of their entry-level Digital Rebels.

Canon Easy-PhotoPrint @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video ipod touch itouch icamera ipad itabletI’ve been printing on Canon printers for years. While Canon cameras often come bundled with worthless “shovel-ware” software, Canon’s printer software, Easy-PhotoPrint, is actually worth installing, since it makes it a snap to print images. In fact, I often use it to print 4×6 photos taken with my iPhone, although I would never use it to produce big prints.

Canon recently released an iPhone app called Canon Easy-PhotoPrint for iPhone. As the title suggests, the app allows you to easily print photos from your iPhone or iPod touch on a compatible PIXMA printer via a local wireless network (Wi-Fi). Note the Wi-Fi requirement – my PIXMA printer is connected via USB, so the app does not work with it. You have to either own a PIXMA printer with Wi-Fi built in or connect the printer to a print server.

According to Canon, the following features are supported:

  • Easily select from a wide range of paper sizes and paper types
  • Select multiple photos from your iPhone or iPod touch Photo Albums and print up to 20 copies
  • Print bordered or borderless photos
  • Automatically find printers on a wireless network when launching the Canon iEPP (editor’s note: This is misleading – my printer is technically on a wireless network, but not connected directly to the wireless network)
  • Start your iPhone camera directly from Canon iEPP and instantly print captured photos

Price: Free from iTunes.

Canon’s Fall Rebates Announced

by Veit on 10/27/2009

Canon windows 7 compatibility @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video ipod touch itouch icasmera ipad itabletUpdate: Canon also has a camera body rebate program. Contrary to their lens and flash rebates, the camera body rebates are not instant, but mail-in rebates, so you have to download the rebate form and send proof of purchase to Canon.

Here is how it works:

  • You qualify for the rebate program, if you registered a qualifying Canon camera before October 12. The list of qualifying cameras is huge, so chances are if you have a registered digital Canon camera, it would qualify.
  • Purchase a new qualifying Canon Powershot and get a $20 rebate, or a qualifying Canon DSLR and get a $50 rebate.

The rebate form (PDF) can be downloaded from Canon’s website.

The rebate offer expires on December 31, 2009.

The rumors were true – Canon officially announced their Fall 2009 rebates. Buy any of the 12 lenses or 5 Flash units (no camera bodies this time) from an authorized Canon U.S.A. dealer and they will instantly take off the rebate amount. You don’t have to deal with submitting rebate forms this time.

Download a PDF of the eligible Canon lenses and flashes from Canon’s website.

Has Canon launched its Fall rebates?

by Veit 10.24.2009
Canon windows 7 compatibility @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video ipod touch itouch icasmera ipad itablet

While Canon has not officially launched its Fall Rebates, Bob Atkins spotted that Amazon is already offering rebates of up to $500 on Canon gear. These look like single rebates – Canon sometimes offers combined updates based on the quantity of gear you buy, but this rebate scheme does not seem to support it. [...]

Canon details Windows 7 compatibility

by Veit 10.24.2009
Canon windows 7 compatibility @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video ipod touch itouch icasmera ipad itablet

Contrary to Nikon, which released a new version of ViewNX this week without support for Snow Leopard or Windows 7, Canon released a PDF file clarifying which Canon cameras support Windows 7. Basically, unless your camera is very old, your Canon software is Window 7 compatible.
Thanks, Canon, for handling this better than Nikon.

Nikon’s true innovation in the D3S

by Veit 10.14.2009
Nikon D3S @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video iPod Touch iTouch iCamera iPad iTablet

Nikon just announced the long-awaited D3S and it looks like there is one real piece of innovation in this camera.
I’m not talking about Nikon boosting its already best-in-class low light sensitivity to a staggering extended ISO of 102,400. Nor that they bumped frame rates to 9-11fps, added 720p video or left the megapixels of their [...]

Weekend Musings: Canon gets it, Nikon only half-way

by Veit 09.20.2009
Canon 7D @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video iPod Touch itouch iCamera

Both Joe and I have written (and will continue to write) about the Good Enough Revolution. In Joe’s case, it was about the future of imaging, in mine about Steve Jobs being its (intentional?) master.
But the good enough revolution does not stop with consumer products – in fact, you can see it right [...]

Canon bumping mega-pixels again in the 7D. Why?

by Veit 09.01.2009
Canon EOS 7D @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video ipod touch itouch ipad itablet icamera

Today, Canon announced the new 7D, with many things to like:

view finder with 1.0x maginifcation and 100% coverage
8 frames per second continuous shooting
dual Digic 4 processors
new 19 point AF system
1080p HD video recording

While all this sounds wonderful to me, there is one thing that does not: 18 mega-pixel APS-C CMOS sensor. Why is that [...]

3 most prominent jail-broken cameras

by Veit 08.05.2009
jail-broken @ iphonephotovideo.com iphone photo video iPod Touch itouch icamera ipad itablet

Apple’s iPhone gets “jail-broken” (the best Marketing term for “hacked” that I’ve ever heard) quite frequently — in most cases because people don’t like the service provider or they would like to use it in countries where the iPhone is not officially available. But the iPhone is by far not the only consumer device [...]

iPhone geotags your DSLR photos

by Veit 05.28.2009

Would you like to geotag your photos that you shoot with your DSLR or point & shoot camera, even if the camera itself does not allow you to do so. Or do you shy away from geotagging because the manufacturers’ solutions are too pricey? There is an alternative, if you have an iPhone!
Simply [...]

iPhone 3.0: Why the hardware SDK matters most to photographers

by Veit 05.25.2009

Recently, the photography community was abuzz about onOne’s DSLR remote application for the iPhone (in a Lite and Pro edition). But while that is a nifty application for photographers, it is a very good example of why the iPhone 3.0 hardware SDK, which allows you to communicate with accessories, is to photographers the most [...]

What makes iPhone photography special?

by Joe 05.16.2009

So you have come to our illustrious site, and you may well ask…”why are these guys focusing on iPhone photography vs. other smartphones and smartphone cameras?”
Since this is a fundamental and relevant question, and since it’s my first post on this new site, I would like to explain why I think the iPhone is particularly [...]
