Print your photos directly from an iPhone on a Canon printer

While Canon cameras often come bundled with worthless “shovel-ware” software, Canon’s printer software, Easy-PhotoPrint, is actually worth installing, since it makes it a snap to print images. In fact, I often use it to print 4×6 photos taken with my iPhone, although I would never use it to produce big prints.

Canon recently released an iPhone app called Canon Easy-PhotoPrint for iPhone. As the title suggests, the app allows you to easily print photos from your iPhone or iPod touch on a compatible PIXMA printer via a local wireless network (Wi-Fi). Note the Wi-Fi requirement – my PIXMA printer is connected via USB, so the app does not work with it. You have to either own a PIXMA printer with Wi-Fi built in or connect the printer to a print server.

According to Canon, the following features are supported:

  • Easily select from a wide range of paper sizes and paper types
  • Select multiple photos from your iPhone or iPod touch Photo Albums and print up to 20 copies
  • Print bordered or borderless photos
  • Automatically find printers on a wireless network when launching the Canon iEPP (editor’s note: This is misleading – my printer is technically on a wireless network, but not connected directly to the wireless network)
  • Start your iPhone camera directly from Canon iEPP and instantly print captured photos
