Back in May, I wrote about the new developments in mini-projectors or ‘pico-projectors’ that are coming to all kinds of devices, most interestingly, future iPhones.
Engadget today reported on rumors of a Nikon Coolpix VP650, which, according to the rumor…”will be a 12.1 megapixel affair, with a 5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm wide-angle coverage” and available in September.
If true, this would be a good indication of what we might expect from either an iPhone 4G (built-in or add-on projection capability) or an iPhone-derived camera, or both.
It’s also a very cool development. Imagine shooting pictures at your kid’s birthday party and then immediately being able to project the images onto the wall for everyone to see…or even using it to project Powerpoint slides at a meeting: load the slides as jpgs onto your camera (avoiding having to bring your multi-pound digital projector on the road with you) and then project them at your meeting.

My preference would be for a peripheral, since it would preserve the iPhone’s battery. But in general, it would be great to have that capability!
