Update 6/28/09: YouTube noted in an entry to its blog that mobile uploads to YouTube increased by 400% since the iPhone 3GS came out. According to our own poll, most of you felt that the iPhone 3GS would be the #1 video camera submitting to YouTube by Macworld 2010, which will take place February. I still maintain it will be by the end of this year and if these upload increases are sustainable, it might be even earlier…
The iPhone already is the #1 camera with regards to submissions of still images to Flickr. With the iPhone 3GS including video capture, in-phone video editing and video upload capabilities to YouTube, it’s pretty clear to me that the iPhone 3GS will become the #1 camera submitting videos to YouTube. When? My guess: Christmas 2009.
What do you think?
p.s.
The impact of this is profound: The iPhone is THE de-facto kingmaker for user-generated content (still images, video, aso). If I was the CEO of a user-generated content service today, I would walk barefoot to Cupertino with as much cash as I have to get my service included into the direct upload capability of the iPhone platform. Otherwise, game over (pretty much!)
